Somerville, NJ (November 13, 2023) – The Downtown Somerville Alliance is proud to kick off the Holiday shopping season with their Small Business Saturday event on Saturday, November 25th from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.

Throughout the day the downtown Somerville business community will be offering a range of exclusive shopping and dining deals throughout the district to help shoppers kick off their search for gifts for family, friends and loved ones.

“As we create our shopping lists this holiday season it’s crucial to note the importance of shopping small,” said Natalie Pineiro, Downtown Managing Consultant of the Downtown Somerville Alliance.  “Brick & mortar businesses not only give us an opportunity to connect with our neighbors, friends and shop owners, but they provide us with personalized experiences that are only found in the heart of our downtown communities.”

Most shops will be open for Small Business Saturday from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.

“Downtown Somerville is the place to come for one-of-a-kind gifts,” Pineiro said. “From fine crystal to exclusive apparel, games and unique gadgets we have something for everyone.”

And for the foodies on the list, Pineiro says that Downtown Somerville boasts several national and international gourmet restaurants with customizable gift-card offerings that make for the perfect gift.

A full list of participating businesses will be available at www.downtownsomerville.org.

The Alliance encourages shoppers to stop by Division Street to experience their Small Business Saturday Lounge during their visit to take advantage of their free Hot Cocoa Bar, chair massages, music and gift wrapping provided by the Somerville Civic League. Patrons can also be entered to win a Downtown Somerville gift basket valued at more than $300 by stopping at the Downtown Somerville Alliance table and submitting any two receipts detailing Small Business Saturday purchases in the district.

A brochure of participating businesses will also be available at the Small Business Saturday Lounge on Division Street during the event.

Small business Saturday is a movement started by American Express in 2010 amid a national recession, to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of the day, and officials in all 50 states now participate in the initiative every year.
