Position Title: Summer Intern – Downtown Programs & Marketing
Location: Somerville, NJ
Duration: May – August 2025 (based on availability)
Hours: 20+ hours/week (flexible scheduling)

About Us:
The Downtown Somerville Alliance (DSA) is the management organization for Somerville’s vibrant downtown district. We work to enhance the economic vitality, marketing, events, and beautification of our historic downtown, making it a premier destination for shopping, dining, and community life.
Position Overview:
The DSA is seeking a motivated and creative Summer Intern to assist with a range of projects that support downtown marketing, community events, business engagement, and organizational development. This internship offers hands-on experience in downtown management, marketing, economic development, and public relations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning, promotion, and on-site support for downtown events (e.g., Summer Stage Concerts, Cruise Nights, Restaurant Week and more).
- Help create social media content (graphics, posts, reels, stories) and assist with scheduling across platforms.
- Conduct business outreach to gather information, assist with promotions, or distribute event materials.
- Support the DSA’s beautification and placemaking projects, including development of our Curb Appeal Program.
- Assist with data collection, including visitor surveys, foot traffic counts, and business inventory updates.
- Help write and design newsletters, blog posts, and downtown news features.
- Provide general administrative support including filing, organizing supplies, or maintaining marketing databases.
- Attend meetings with DSA staff and committees as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate student (sophomore, junior, or senior preferred) in marketing, communications, urban planning, public administration, event planning, or a related field.
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Outgoing and Comfortable interacting with the public and local business owners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva (or willingness to learn).
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok).
- Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends during special events.
- Enthusiasm for downtown revitalization, small businesses, and community development!
