Somerville, NJ, November 9, 2018 – – Girls on the Run of Central New Jersey (GOTRCNJ) will kick off its Fall 5K, Sunday, November 18 at 11:00am with nearly 1,000 runners participating in the race. Annually the GOTRCNJ program serves over 2,000 girls at nearly 100 sites. Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through an evidence-based curriculum which includes dynamic discussions in confidence, competence and caring. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop critical life skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. “Here I am at 18 years as Director of GOTRCNJ, and the inspiration I get from watching these girls cross the finish line never gets old”, said Donna York, Executive Director of GOTRCNJ. Girls on the Run was recently included as a top research-based program in a Social-Emotional Learning Guide developed by researchers at Harvard University and has been recognized by the National Afterschool Association (NAA) as one of the most influential after-school programs in the nation. GOTRCNJ is grateful to its race day sponsors: Celgene, Hark-ALS, Lesser Evil Snacks, Mason Griffin & Pierson P.C., Northfield Bank, Open Road Acura of East Brunswick, United Rent All, Volvo Cars Bridgewater, Wade Ray and Wegmans.
